Man of Sorrows – What A Name!

Philip P. Bliss
(1838-1876)

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows,
and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
—Isaiah 53:3 KJV—

“Man of sorrows,” what a name
For the Son of God Who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim!

Refrain:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood—

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He.
“Full atonement”—can it be?

Lifted up was He to die,
“It is finished” was His cry;
Now in heav’n exalted high!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew this song we’ll sing—
